Short description of the medical training program in the Netherlands

Background on the Dutch medical doctor degree
To get certified as a medical doctor in the Netherlands, 6 years of university training is needed according to the bachelor’s master’s doctorate system. Throughout the last 3 years of the training (master phase) the students rotate through most of the  the medical departments as interns. They also do some research and write a master thesis.
After completing the medical doctor degree, they can apply for  the specialization in Global Health and Tropical Medicine.  Candidates are selected through a comprehensive selection process by our institution.
By the time these doctors start their training component abroad they will have at least 5 years of clinical experience with the competency to treat most clinical problems appropriately under limited supervision.

For details please see the document ‘General Information Training Component Abroad’.
